You can design and make your own cotton polishing discs from 70 to 500 mm in diameter using our centre-bored washers. These are sold by weight and enable you to make your polishing discs to the thickness you require.
Standard diameters and bores.
Our COTTON POLISHING DISCS SOLD BY WEIGHT are selected from the diameters and bores most commonly used in cutlery: diameters from 70 to 500 mm and bores from 5 to 35 mm. We have plastic reduction rings to fit COTTON POLISHING DISCS SOLD BY WEIGHT perfectly to your machine shafts.
How many sheets of cotton are needed to make a polishing disc?
Our sewn cotton polishing discs have between 30 and 60 layers of cotton discs. As a general rule, you need around 30 discs per centimetre of disc thickness. The weight to be ordered will depend directly on the disc diameters required and, to a lesser extent, the bore diameters of the mounting holes. To give you an idea, the weights to order for 1 cm disc thickness by diameter are approximately as follows:
70 mm : 0.030 kg (30 g) 100 mm : 0.070 kg (70 g) 150 mm : 0.130 kg (130 g) 200 mm : 0.185 kg (185 g) 250 mm : 0.200 kg (200 g) 300 mm : 0.225 kg (225 g) 400 mm : 0.325 kg (325 g) 500 mm : 0.560 kg (560 g) The weights shown may vary depending on the weaving method and are given as a guide only.
Making and fitting your polishing discs.
The discs are easily assembled by stacking our COTTON POLISHING DISCS SOLD BY WEIGHT directly on the spindle of your machine, on one of our mounting bushes or on a Ø10 mm spindle rod. Given the thickness of each sheet, you need around 30 COTTON POLISHING DISCS SOLD BY WEIGHT per centimetre of disc thickness required, i.e. : 10 mm thickness: 30 discs 15 mm thickness: 40 washers 20 mm thickness: 60 washers 25 mm thickness: 75 washers 30 mm thickness: 90 washers Etc.
